July 13, 2010 Ganesha gifts
T he Ambassador of Poland Piotr Klodkowski was scheduled to meet Amitabh Bachchan in Mumbai at his office on April 10 2010 but had to cancel due to the tragedy in their country where the Poland President and many others died in a tragic air crash. A few days later Amitabh Bachchan was scheduled to travel to Poland as the 'Guest of Honor' at the 'International Festival of Independent Cinema in Krakow', Poland on April 22. Jaya Bachchan and director Balki were to accompany him as "Paa" was being screened at this film festival in Krakow. But the Iceland volcano eruption paralysed the air traffic and the ash clouds made him cancel his trip to Poland.
Finally the Ambassador of Poland who was in Mumbai from New Delhi, met with Amitabh Bachchan recently at his residence Pratiksha for an hour-long meeting. Amitabh Bachchan gifted the Ambassador three books one of which was a personally autographed book Madhushala, which had the English translation of his father's poems.
The Poles had made preparations ahead of Bachchan's arrival in Krakow and planned an itinerary for him which included a visit to the 'The Wieliczka Salt Mines'. In preparation of his visit to this historical place, a sculptor specially crafted a 'salt' Ganesha for Bachchan which was to be gifted to him on arrival. The same was flown down a few days ago to Mumbai.
