The set of Prakash Jha's 'Aarakshan' <http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/thumb.cms?msid=8205481&width=300&resizemode=4> <http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/photo/5766056.cms>

The set of Prakash Jha's 'Aarakshan'

The set of Prakash Jha's 'Aarakshan' was demolished in Bhopal; the director says the demolition was eerily similar to what would have happened in the film's climax

Truth is stranger than fiction and Prakash Jha learnt it the hard way this week - the director had no idea he'd be looking at a skewed version of the climax of his next " Aarakshan" in real life, when he heard that the set he had constructed for the movie in Bhopal was to be demolished. The director had taken a land on rent from Minal Residency Group where he'd built a large bungalow for the movie, but apparently, the land was disputed and the district magistrate's office ordered demolition of the building on the land. In the process, Jha lost the set
of his movie where he still was to shoot a few scenes. Talking to DT, Jha said, "It's terrible what has happened. We had constructed a very large set that consisted of a tabela and a large bungalow that Mr Bachchan had constructed where he was staying. We had taken it on rent from Minal Residency and the owners had given us permission to shoot for 60 days. apparently, the government and Minal Residency had some problem and they didn't have requisite permission, so the order to demolish the property was given. The officials demolished a mall and our set after the order was given since it was apparently disputed property. As luck would have it, my climax in the movie is that a minister here gets very irked with the tabela school where Mr Bachchan starts to teach children and he doesn't want it there. Eventually, they send forces to demolish the tabela. and the whole town and the students stand in front of it, and stop the demolition from taking
place. But, that's in the movie. In reality, no one could stand up and stop the demolition. If you see the haalat of the set before and after the demolition, you'll have tears in your eyes, just like we did here. It's terrible." The director now plans to construct another set in Bhopal to complete the patchwork shooting.
